Evolution of the Internet Architecture for LoWPAN BIBADetails 1

This paper proposes an evolution of the Internet architecture where the interconnection dogma can be weaker and allows some changes in the way packets are processed and network is managed. We will show some of the limitations of the current design of IPv6 especially regarding extension management and propose an innovative approach where packet formats may transform depending on the nature of the network. We will use LoWPANs as an example and show the possible development of this paradigm.
   The proposed approach of evolving the Internet architecture has been implemented in an WSN urban network and has been deployed in a real-world scenario, courtesy of the ANR project ARESA2.
   The remainder of the paper is organized as follows. Section 2 presents the currently proposed IETF architecture and protocols for LoWPAN, while in Section 3 we discuss its limitations and the necessary packet and address format modifications. Section 4 presents our new architecture for LoWPANs.

L'ingénierie des protocoles implique souvent de nombreuses phases de tests pour valider un protocole nouvellement créé. Dans le domaine spécifique des réseaux de capteurs sans fil, la démocratisation récente du matériel a permis de nouveaux usages pour les concepteurs de protocoles. En effet, après les phases classiques de spécification et de simulation, il est désormais courant d'évaluer le protocole dans un contexte réel et concret, sur cible finale. Dans cette optique, des outils adaptés émergent, non seulement pour rendre cette tâche plus accessible, mais aussi pour en maîtriser le déploiement, afin de rendre les résultats plus exploitables. Dans cet article, après un bref tour d'horizon des solutions disponibles, la plateforme « WiNo » d'émulation et de prototypage rapide pour réseaux de capteurs est présentée, ainsi que plusieurs exemples représentatifs de résultats obtenus grâce à son usage.
Auto-configuration Proactive de la Couche MAC pour les Réseaux de Capteurs Sans Fil à Trafic Variable BIBADetails 3

Many Wireless Sensor Networks deployments have to face bursty traffic, where packets are sent in a raw. For example, when a node is disconnected from the network or when the radio channel is unavailable for some time, nodes may have to store packets in the meantime. Then, when the sink is reachable again, it will have to send the stored packets, one directly after the other. This specific case is rarely addressed by Medium Access Control mechanisms. As this situation leads to long periods of channel occupancy, it may lead to increased delays and energy-consumption. In most deployment, the MAC layer configuration remains static (i.e. it does not vary over time) and homogeneous (i.e. identical for all nodes). Considering this, we here present BAT-MAC, a novel preamble-sampling MAC protocol specifically designed to address this issue through the introduction of heterogeneous nodes configuration in the network. BAT-MAC dynamically adapts MAC configuration depending on the actual and expected traffic load. This way, it allows nodes to deal with bursty traffic more quickly, and in an energy efficient manner. BAT-MAC can be used in combination with any preamble-sampling MAC protocol. In this paper, we evaluated it in association with X-MAC, and demonstrated that it can provide significant gains in terms of delays and energy consumption.

Handheld devices processing power increases and they embed more and more sensors. It is now possible on such devices to overlay the view of the physical surrounding provided by the back-facing camera with computer graphics. This technique has been coined as "Augmented Reality" and it is used in different areas. Augmented Reality creates a mixed environment composed of the view of the physical surrounding augmented with digital content displayed on the handheld device's screen. In this context, this paper studies the spatial relations involved while the user is interacting with this mixed environment. We focus on two spatial relations: (1) between the object of interest in the physical world and the handheld device, and (2) between the handheld device and the user. We present some handheld Augmented Reality application examples that make use of those spatial relations for interaction.

Vers une détection automatique des applications malveillantes dans les environnements Android BIBAKDetails 6

In this paper, we present the state of the art regarding attacks and threads in Android environment and their associated detection methods. Most of the existing approaches rely on information obtained using the instrumentation or the reverse-engineering of the bytecode of the analyzed applications. We present therefore a novel approach relying on the analysis of system and applications logs generated by the Android platform. Our developed analysis tool allows us to establish fingerprints of Android applications associating their execution structure and dynamics.

Techniques d'interaction sur tablettes dans le contexte de géométrie 3D BIBAKDetails 7

Tablets with touch-screens, multi-touch interfaces and various sensors are becoming increasingly common. More and more schools are testing them with their pupils in the hope of bringing pedagogic benefits. Thanks to this new type of devices, new sets of interactions can be thought of. Yet, user reception has to be tested before any pedagogic benefits can be evaluated. In this paper, a set of interactions using multi-touch and sensors to manage rotation of solids is presented. It was largely accepted by a test group of learners aged 9 to 15.

In ambient computing environments, applications need to monitor their execution context and react to changes in their environment. The distribution of context data poses great challenges to researchers. In this paper, we focus in the modeling of the distribution of context data.
   A model of the distribution of context data allows the expression of context constraints and the delivery of unambiguous context information between providers and consumers, and the context management service, and between the various components of the context management service. We argue that the management of context data distribution can be achieved by establishing context contracts. For this purpose, we propose a model of context contract and use Distributed Events Based Systems (DEBS) as an appropriate interaction model for building asynchronous communication between providers and consumers of context information.

QoCIM : un méta-modèle de qualité de contexte BIBAKDetails 9

In the last decade, many works aimed to propose their own quality of context (QoC) criteria list. This article relates a comparative study of these successive propositions. The result is that no consensus has been reached about the semantic and the completeness of QoC criteria. Faced with this situation, the QoCIM meta-model is proposed as a generic, computable and expressive solution to handle and to exploit any QoC criterion within context managers and context-sensitive applications. For validation purposes, QoCIM is successfully applied for modelling a set of simple and composite QoC criteria.

GRAPP&S, une Architecture Multi-Échelle pour les Données et le Services BIBADetails 10

In this paper we introduce GRAPP&S (Grid APPlication & Services), a multi-scale framework for an unified storage and indexing of both data and services. Indeed, GRAPP&S was designed to support different data formats such as files, stream or database queries, but also to support the access to distant services (web services, cloud services or HPC computing services, for example). GRAPP&S coordinates an hierarchical routing architecture that allows data indexing and access, thanks to a multi-scale network of local-area communities. Transparent access is provided by a network of specialized proxies, which handle most aspects related to data location, request handling, data preprocessing/summary and also data consistence. Furthermore, GRAPP&S infrastructure can be easily enhanced to ensure security and confidentiality inside a GRAPP&S community and among different communities.

Modern mobile devices spreading introduce a new way of using and designing software applications. These pervasive systems are now part of our lives. More and more connected objects provide us more and more software capabilities. In this environment we have to rethink the way we traditionally consider our interactions with this software. These interactions are now potentially spread over multiple devices with different interacting modalities. We propose, in this paper, a software container component based architecture to design such interactions and a software platform to manage their dynamic life-cycle.

Energy Evaluations for Wireless IPv6 Sensor Nodes BIBAKDetails 12

Typical Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) include some energy autonomous nodes and main powered router nodes. To meet a reasonable lifetime, i.e. years, the autonomous devices have to encompass strong energy constraints. Our target network architecture consists in such wireless autonomous nodes connected to a backbone based on PLC nodes. Our given building automation application scenario runs a 10 minutes periodic probes sampling which reports a data frame over the Internet using IPv6. For this purpose, our WSN nodes use open RPL/ContikiOS softwares and typical off-the-shelf electronic components. In order to optimize the node energy consumption we propose a systemic analysis that includes all the software layers and hardware components. The energy distribution among the different components and the critical software parameters are weighted against the global energy consumption. Thanks to measurements and technical data, we propose a simple model that allows to identify pitfalls and determine optimized solutions. Following our established guidelines, we believe our future WSN monitoring platform will achieve more than 10 years lifetime with the target scenario.

In this paper, we propose a conceptual framework, called Service Space, for specifying Pervasive Information Systems (PIS) and their functionalities. These systems have to combine the dynamism and the heterogeneity of the pervasive environment to which they belong with the business constraints of Information Systems (IS). We present the notion of Service Space as a conceptual framework intending to represent PIS elements in a transparent way. It is a conceptual tool allowing PIS designers to manage heterogeneity from pervasive environments in the specific case of Information Systems.

Interopérabilité des réseaux de capteurs hétérogènes dans un appartement intelligent BIBADetails 14

Efficient use of heterogeneous sensors networks needs a huge development effort (hardware and software gateways), thus slowing down application developers. This article presents a new gateway architecture ensuring interoperability and facilitating transparent access to the data offered by various types of sensors, applied to the domain of smart housing for supporting the home care of the elderly/impaired people. More especially, we focus on the access to wireless sensor networks using web services in the case of devices devoid of the CoAP/6LoWPAN network stack. This gateway also provides an homogeneous interface for accessing the data processed by these different sensors, thanks to the integration of a middleware layer based on ROS (Robot Operating System).

Les techniques d'interaction destinées à favoriser le retour à domicile de personnes fragilisées et en perte d'autonomie sont en plein essor. Cependant, si les besoins sont forts et les propositions nombreuses, il convient de mettre à disposition des systèmes ouverts permettant leur évaluation en situation réelle. En fonction des capacités cognitives, motrices et perceptives de la personne les utilisant, les dispositifs peuvent être plus ou moins efficaces. Dans cet article, les auteurs proposent une plateforme d'expérimentation permettant le développement rapide puis la mise à l'épreuve de tels dispositifs, dans un environnement de type « living lab ». La plateforme est constituée de divers systèmes d'interaction (tactile, reconnaissance et synthèse vocale, reconnaissance de formes), de dispositifs de traitement et des systèmes communicants (bus domotique, réseau local, etc.). Le dispositif proposé se veut le plus ouvert possible, fortement évolutif et simple d'usage, pour permettre le développement rapide de projets de recherche dans cette thématique.

The rise of gestural interaction led artists to produce shows, or installations based on this paradigm. We present the first stages of the "Sculpture numérique" Virtual Sculpture) project. This project was born from a collaboration with dancers. Its goal is to propose bi-manual interactions in a large augmented space: we aim at giving dancers the possibility to generate and manipulate virtual elements on stage using their hands. We built two prototypes; one in a CAVE environment, and one intended for the stage. An initial user study was conducted to obtain feedbacks both from laypersons and professional dancers.

CrowdOut: un service de crowdsourcing pour la sécurité routière dans les villes numériques BIBAKDetails 19

Nowadays cities invest more in their services, and particularly digital ones, to improve their resident's quality of life and attract more people. Thus, new crowdsourcing services appear and they are based on contributions made by mobile users. For example, the respect of the traffic code is essential for ensure citizens' security and welfare in their city. With this in mind, we proposed CrowdOut, a new crowdsourcing mobile service for road security in cities. CrowdOut allows users to report traffic offences they witness in real time and to map them on a city plan. CrowdOut service is implemented, and preliminary tests and demonstrations have been performed in the urban environment of the Grand Nancy. This service allows users to appropriate their urban environment with an active participation regarding the collectivity. This service also represents a tool for administrator to help for decisions and improve their policy of urbanization, or check the impact of their policy decision in the city environment.
